In our message today, we’ll be focusing on the Prayer of Solitude. We’re going to examine a couple of passages in the Gospel of Matthew—one where Jesus is our example in prayer, and the other where Jesus is teaching us how to pray. One of the most effective ways that I have found to get started in prayer is to pray the Bible back to God. This idea of praying the Bible is the reason that I have challenged you to memorize various prayer passages in Scripture during this series. So far, we have memorized Psalm 51:1-4, 10-12 and Psalm 130:1-5. Starting this week, I’m challenging you to memorize Matthew 6:9-13 (aka the Lord’s Prayer). These prayers of the Bible will serve as prayer starters for you during those times when you know you need to pray, but you just don’t know how to start.
