As we continue our journey through the various types of Psalms that God has preserved for us in His Word, we now come to the Psalms of Ascent. The Psalms of Ascent are a set of 15 Psalms found in Psalm 120-134 that the Jewish people sung whenever they “went up” to Jerusalem for the three annual Jewish feasts–Passover, Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacles. As the people traveled “up” to Jerusalem, these psalms would help their hearts turn upward to God and prepare their hearts for these special times of worship. In a similar way, as we read and meditate on these Psalms today, they should cause us to lift our eyes to the hills and remember from where our help comes. (Psalm 121:1-2)
