This the Christ who Was Long Foretold

The Bible is absolutely clear that singing is a central part of worship. We are to sing in all circumstances—in joy, in sorrow, in thankfulness and in distress. We are to sing to the Lord, and we are to sing to one another as a way to confess our faith, give thanks to the Lord, and encourage one another. The songs we sing are informing our theology—or our belief system—as much if not more than the things that are being taught or preached. One of the newer Christmas songs that we have been singing over the past few years is a song titled: “Sing We the Song of Emmanuel.” For the next three weeks, we are going to take the three verses of this song—Sing We the Song of Emmanuel —and we’re going to explore some of the biblical teachings that we find there. While we examine this modern carol closely, we will also consider some other, more traditional carols to see how these songs have influenced and informed our beliefs as they relate to the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
