The Coming of the Kingdom of God

In this passage, Jesus teaches us about the coming of the kingdom of God, but there are two tenses that He is referring to—the already and the not yet. In a very real sense, the kingdom had already come into the world in the person of Jesus. That aspect of the kingdom is what Jesus was referring to in verses 20-21. But beginning in verse 22, Jesus is speaking about another aspect of the kingdom—one that has not yet come but will come on “that Day” in which God appoints His Son to return to earth in all His glory. We are still waiting for that complete fulfillment of the kingdom of God.
