For the past few weeks, we have been exploring the biblical basis for the modern, Christmas carol “Sing We the Song of Emmanuel.” Verse one of this song begins with teachings on the fulfillment of prophecy and quickly move to focus on the incarnation of the ultimate God-Man. Verse two continues its focus on the incarnation and the condescension of the second person of the Holy Trinity to be made into the likeness of human beings, but it does not stop there. Verse two also proclaims the glorious purpose for which Christ came—in grace, majesty and humility, He came to save us all. So, what should our natural response to this be? 8 We should go spread the news of Emmanuel! It is on these lyrics that we will focus our attention this morning as we finish our study from The Song of Emmanuel—thinking about what it means to “Go spread the news of Emmanuel” and to “tell the world His name is Jesus.”
