In our message today, I want to explore some of the most audacious and grandiose teachings of our Lord during His time here on earth. Teachings so extravagant that we struggle to know what to do with them! How can our Lord Jesus say to us: “Ask, and it will be given to you”? This is the crux of expectant prayer—and it oftentimes seems too good to be true! In Prayer with No Intermission, Bill Elliff addresses this issue. On Day 14, he writes: “In Christ’s final conversation with His disciples, He gives a promise so expansive that it is hard to believe. But it is found right before us in the red letters of the inspired, inerrant Scripture.” So, for the next few minutes, I want us to explore these promises given to us by our Lord in the Upper Room Discourse in John 14-16.
