In the last of this series of parables (Luke 16:19-31), Jesus tells the stories of two men—one who lived lavishly on earth and one who was a poor, sick beggar. The story chronicles the eternal destinies of each of these men. The rich man went to hell, a place of eternal agony and torment, while the poor man went to heaven, a place of eternal comfort and delight. While this is a just a parable, the implications are far-reaching for every person who has ever lived will eventually find himself in one of those two places. Your eternal destiny is determined by what you do with the truth of God’s Word. Will you believe its truths? Or will you deny these truths and reject the free gift of salvation?
