The Lord established His church during His ministry here on earth to bring glory to Him by making disciples from those who have not yet trusted in Him as Savior. The first step in the process of making disciples is evangelism. Evangelism is “telling the story of Jesus’s life, death, resurrection, and second coming with the goal of persuading people to repent of their sin, follow Jesus as Lord, and rely on him to save them from God’s condemnation” (Christ-Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in Luke). In this and subsequent passages, Jesus demonstrates several key principles concerning evangelism beginning with the announcement of the coming of the Kingdom of God.
