Today, and for the next two weeks, we’ll be making our way through this poetic masterpiece, seeking to understand all the truths that God has for us in this text. As I have spent time with this passage, I have noted three primary sections that need to be discussed. In the first six verses, the psalmist declares that all creation is proclaiming the glory of God (Elohim). In the following five verses, the psalmist details the self-revelation of God (Yahweh) through His Word and its effect on mankind. Then, in the final three verses, the psalmist responds to God’s self-revelation in humble repentance and genuine worship. As we focus our attention on this middle section today (verses 7-11), we notice that the psalmist uses six different terms to refer to the Word of the Lord.
